braincurd:

this is my list of games i play when i feel sad or hypomanic
theyre all browser games so u dont need to d/l anything to play
lots of them are p simple and not too taxing so they dont frazzle your brain out any worse, but are still interesting enough to be fun

*Floribular- be a gardener and place flowers in a grid to clear rows of similar flowers, also its super cute
*NeliNurk- like a cross between tetris and bejewelled where you clear tiles by making rectangles with them
*Kavalmaja- maze exploring sort of game with puzzles, also it gives you a randomly generated character name (i got Epixog Treefixer)

*fl0w- youre a little plankton creature and when you eat other smaller plankton creatures, you evolve and get more and more beautiful each time. also dont get eaten by bigger things. youre living under the sea. things are glowy. you are glowy and peaceful

*any of the Eyezmaze games, but especially
Grow Cube- add the right elements at the right time to get them to max out and complete the animation right. little people on an isometric cube. one of the elements is a plate
Grow Valley- add the right elements at the right time to get them to max out and fully advance the civilisation in the valley, also there is a secret ending
Grow ver.2- add the right shapes in the right order so that they… evolve? its little shape creatures in a forest and they power up and stuff its rad

* Folds- a sort of origami game, with really neat looking paper, making nice clean edges

*Interlocked- you know those wooden puzzles that are made out of a bunch of separate parts and you have to twist and slide them to separate the puzzle? its that

*Cat Astro Phi- this is like a retro action adventure game that looks like an old gameboy game. youre an astronaut who sucks at steering your spaceship, and you keep crashing and losing your kitty on alien planets, so you go rescue your kitty

*REDDER- kinda retro adventure exploration game with puzzles. youre an astronaut who crashes on a planet (i think its mars but nobody ever wants to say that for some reason), and your fuel cell splits up into pieces which you have to collect so you can escape. its gets weirdly introspective and eerie its great. its not so happy but its really really good

*William and Sly and the sequel- youre a fox and you go leaping and bounding through a huge forest solving problems and puzzles, and also there are fairies

Oh shit, the Handy app added a head model for angle and lighting reference.

And they added coloured light? holy crap! I need to pay better attention to the updates on this thing.

7u7:

I’ve been playing so many RPG-Maker games lately so I’m gonna make a little recommendation post for my own reference, and for anyone who’s interested.

  • Flesh Child - It’s an exploration-based game in the very early stages of development so there’s only two areas accessible, but what’s there is very original and very interesting (and fairly disturbing too).
  • Yume Nikki - I know everyone already knows about Yume Nikki, but I’ll list it anyway. It’s huge and it’s beautiful, and it’s inspiring enough to have a whole wiki devoted to the fan-games it’s spawned.
  • .flow - A pretty popular Yume Nikki fangame, with much more emphasis on horror than that game. Still focuses on exploring a surreal dreamscape to find effects, but it’s a little more lucid and outwardly scary. There’s a few jump scares, but most of its horror comes from the absence in between. Some great pixel art and character designs too.
  • Ib - A story-driven horror adventure about a little girl who gets lost in a museum, where the way you interact with the other characters drastically changes the outcome of the story. Some good puzzles and memorable characters.
  • Lisa - A big trigger warning on this one, and the only one I would say I didn’t actually enjoy. Because you aren’t meant to enjoy it. It’s meant to be disturbing and upsetting, and it’s very good at it. It’s not quite horror and there’s no jump scares, but it’ll leave you feeling uneasy for a while.
  • The Mirror Lied - An abstract story that leaves so much open to interpretation, I don’t think I can even summarize it. It’s very short though, and it’s worth checking out.
  • To the Moon - By the same people as The Mirror Lied, but much more straight-forward and, I think, more enjoyable. Some extremely well-written dialogue makes the characters feel very real, and it even made me cry. It’s the only game here that costs money, but I think it’s worth the price. The link leads to a trailer that summarizes it well.
  • Penpals - A cute and short (yet deceptively unsettling at times) game that’s been floating around tumblr. The art is great and it’s full of weird little bits of personal wisdom.
  • Schuld - A horror-action game where you start off as a man wandering through a dying world in which human limbs are the only thing of any value, and it only gets weirder from there.
  • OFF - The link describes OFF far better than I ever could, but if I could only recommend one game here, it’d be OFF. Probably the largest amount of original content I’ve ever seen in an RPG-Maker game, it’s an actual turn-based RPG full of great surreal art and some kick-ass music.
  • The Witch’s House - A puzzle/exploration game about a girl trapped in a house that tries to kill her in countless creative ways. You’re going to die a lot, but that’ll be nothing compared to how it leaves you feeling at the end.
  • Space Funeral - I think this screenshot speaks for itself.

holly shit im gonna save this as a draft because ill need this

I wonder how many people used their keyboards to like and reblog this post

“J” has been really handy with the “Colors of the Sky” post and its variations circulating recently.

But yeah, here you go for those who didn’t know the shortcuts.

a couple of tumblr functions if you didn’t know about them:

  • you can make tags on an individual blog display from the earliest to latest post by adding /chrono to the end, for example: http://gameofgifs.tumblr.com/tagged/season_202/chrono
  • you can search through a tumblog by date using “http://username.tumblr.com/day/YEAR/MONTH/DAY”, for example: http://gameofgifs.tumblr.com/day/2012/09/16
  • you can view just the photo posts on your dashboard in mosaic form by going to http://www.tumblr.com/photos
  • you can save ask messages to your queue or drafts by hovering your mouse over the publish button and holding down “alt”, which will bring up alternative options
  • by using the url “http://www.tumblr.com/show/type of post” you can filter your dash, for example “http://www.tumblr.com/show/photos” will show only photos
  • you can retrieve previously used themes via the theme recovery page: http://www.tumblr.com/themes/recover
  • when reblogging a long text post (like this one!), click on the chain link at the top-right of the post to reblog as a text post, link or quote
