The sad part of FF8 was the fact it would’ve been a good game if you cut out the main character and love interest. … And whatever disc 4 was trying to be, I still haven’t quite got that particular twist figured out.
The soundtrack and general designs were good and and I liked the characters outside the two I mentioned, especially Laguna and his crew. Hell, at one part you’re jumping onto a high-speed train to simultaneously kidnap a corrupt president and switch out a dummy car to give your crew an alibi and it was about as cool as it sounds.
Yet somehow after the second disc or so they kind of drop the entire “mercenaries hired during wartime” thing and focus 85% on the love story and it just falls flat. And the battle system was a bit odd and kind of forced you into using either physical attacks or equipped summons so it ended up kind of boring after a bit.
The game had potential, but it went in the wrong direction.
